Parliament will convent on September 23, to extend the State of Public Emergency.
The country has been under a state of emergency since March 2020 and has seen numerous three-month extensions.
The latest extension is set to expire at the end of this month.
A state of emergency is a situation in which a government is empowered to be able to put through policies that it would normally not be permitted to do, for the safety and protection of its citizens.
A government can declare such a state during a natural disaster, civil unrest, armed conflict, medical pandemic or epidemic or other bio-security risks.
The main Opposition Party UPP has maintained that the government is using the State of Emergency to curtail persons freedom and does not deem the measure necessary.
However, the government has maintained that the state of Emergency is needed to address the COVID crisis and for implementing the curfew which the country is now under.
