Family member of Nigel Christian says he is “fed up with the system”

An uncle of slain customs officer, Nigel Christian, says he is “disgusted” and “fed up with the system” having not received any information indicating progress in his nephew’s murder investigation.

Tyrone Hill was among a few disgruntled protestors who gathered opposite the Police Headquarters on American Road today, calling for “justice for Nigel Christian.”

Hill lamented that he may die before the murder is solved. “Maybe I’m closer to my grave than them to any answers,” he said somberly.

He further believes that the authorities are being disingenuous. “The police time after they keep making pronouncements whenever there is a picket on and they keep coming to the public and telling lies.

“It is my feeling that there was never Scotland Yard for this purpose in Antigua because they didn’t even question the family, go on the site so it is my feeling that they were never here and they keep lying to us. And it is my feeling that Gaston Browne and Cutie Benjamin has answers for solving this,” he said.

The frustrated man continued saying: “I’m not going to be happy unless I see the back of them so they can go to trial if they are to be tried for any involvement.” This is the fourth protest being held, by the Concerned Citizens group.

Prior to each protest, the group has penned a letter to Attorney General Steadroy ‘Cutie’ Benjamin. Just this week, the police stated that they may have to depend primarily on circumstantial evidence to solve Christians murder as well as two other homicides of 2020.

Christian, 44, was gunned down in July after being kidnapped in broad daylight from his McKinnons home. This took place months after another Customs officer, Cornell Benjamin, was the victim of an attempted murder after being shot at his Cassada Gardens residence in October 2019.

Christian’s bullet riddled body was found shortly after his abduction along a dirt road at Thibous in the vicinity of New Winthorpes Area.
