City East residents cries out for a greater police presence as violent criminal activity increases in the community

A resident of the City East community is calling for more police presence in the area due to an apparent increase in criminal activity.

It was only on Wednesday, December 16, that a robbery and shooting occurred on Hilda Davis Drive in Gambles.  The owner of a cook shop was robbed at gunpoint by two young men, one of whom was brandishing a gun.

During the incident, a neighbouring resident was shot in the back after hearing the woman scream and running to her assistance.

Caudley George says the Police need to make their presence seen in the community in order to deter criminals.

George says this type of offence seems to be on the increase in the City East constituency. He says it was just about a month ago that a young woman’s handbag was snatched as she was on her way home from work.

He says these robberies seem to be well planned-out and executed.

George also spoke of an incident that happened on Wednesday, December 16, after leaving his farm.

He fears that the business will be impacted financially by this incident, since Princess Margaret School students frequent the establishment, and it was robbed about half an hour before school was dismissed.

He says students, as well as their parents, should be concerned that a similar incident could occur.

There have been increased reports of robberies in other parts of the island, as well. A source informed that a vendor who sells plants on Old Parham Road was held up outside her house and robbed of her handbag.
