Pringle gives qualified support to development project by private sector

Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle is giving qualified support to proposals for a major development project at Willoughby Bay, which is among plans put forward by a group within the Economic Recovery Committee (ERC).

His continued support depends on the degree of the Gaston Browne Administration’s involvement, he explains.

On Thursday, the ERC held a special investment symposium to discuss recovery plans with several sectors of the society; and Pringle, in his capacity as Leader of the Opposition, was invited to attend.

A businessman himself, Pringle says there has been a decline in local investment since 2014, when the United Progressive Party (UPP) Administration left office.

He says the current administration has promised a number of investment opportunities, most of which are yet to materialize.

Given this reality, Pringle says he will offer his full support only if the initiatives put forward are private-sector driven, with the support of the relevant technicians and minimal participation by the Government.

The Opposition Leader says the ideas presented at the forum are viable, but he believes there are some issues that need to be addressed first.

Pringle assured his audience that he was speaking on behalf of the UPP; his position was articulated about two weeks ago by Political Leader Harold Lovell.
