Candidate-elect Anthony Smith jr makes action speak louder than words in constituency outreach

Anthony Smith, Jr., the United Progressive Party’s candidate for the All Saints West constituency, has begun to earn kudos for putting people first.

Smith presented a care package consisting of toiletries, cleaning supplies and food to the management of Valmon’s Caregiving Home for the Elderly in Buckleys this past Saturday, August 29.

“As an entrepreneur, I’ve seen, first-hand, the toll this pandemic has taken on the pockets of individuals.  With no aid from the Government, I wanted to contribute to a business, which, in spite of hardships, continues to provide special care to the elderly,” Smith explained.

Welcoming Smith and his team, the management of the facility, expressed appreciation for being recognized and assisted.   Manager Valerie Joseph said the donation speaks volumes about  Smith’s intentions.

One resident pointed out that Smith is neither a stranger to the community, nor to service, recalling  the young candidate’s involvement with the Sea View Farm Football Club, where he served on the executive for approximately 10 years.

“He is our own.  He grew up here.  We know him waaay before politics, as an organizer, a hard worker and a role model for young people,” an older resident of the community said of Smith.  “He will not abandon us after we have voted for him.”

Meanwhile, Smith has pledged to serve not only in his village, but in the entire constituency.  To that end, all the other nursing homes in All Saints West have been identified for assistance.

“The people of ASW can expect many new and fresh initiatives.  I have a competent team with whom I am working, but that is as much as I am prepared to share at this time.  We are of few words now, but our actions will speak loudly,” the UPP candidated declared.

Smith, 30, has already spearheaded a tree-planting project with youth in the constituency, and has led the cleaning and restoration of a tank in Sea View Farm.  He said he is collaborating with a researcher, who will assist in inscribing historical facts about the village on the recently painted landmark.
