Trumpet News understands that General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union have reponded on behalf of the Unions  membership to Prime Minister Gaston Brown by expressing their  appreciation to him for engaging with them via Zoom meeting and outlining his Government perspective on the way forward  for LIAT ( The Caribbean Peoples Airline).

Massiah stated in his letter ”it was pellucid that the gathering was sympathetic to and supportive of the idea of keeping LIAT (Our Airline) in the skies all be it in a restructured and reorganized way at all levels”
Massiah went on to further address the Prime Minister’s request reguarding a possible reduction in the severance pay by outling to the him ”that severance payment to employees became due and payable immediately after 30th June 2020.

However taking a number of factors into consideration and our quest to be part of the rescue mission, the employees have agreed to a 30% reduction in theirs severance entitlements on the condition and acceptance that the said 30% be converted into SHARES on behalf of the said employees”.

Trumpet News further understands that Massiah requested on behalf of the Unions Membership that the remaining 70 percent be calculated and paid to the employees expeditiously.

The Unions General Secretary did not fall short of asking that employees be represented on the newly  restructured board of LIAT and stated if the Prime Minister wish for them to be part of the formulation/ faciltating process going forward they would be pleased to be involved as the employees views and opinions are critical to any future dispensation of LIAT
