HEALTH MINISTER CAUTIONS AGAINST COMPLACENCY AS COVID INFECTIONS DECREASE

Minister of Health and the Environment, Sir Molwyn Joseph has warned Antiguans and Barbudans not to become complacent even as coronavirus infections plummet here in Antigua and Barbuda.

” I must caution that we should not make the mistake of thinking that we have over- come Covid. We have not.

The people of Antigua and Barbuda will now have to see the importance even more so than before of their commitment  and this commitment must be seen in the long term not only in the moment”.

Jospeh while speaking on the local television station( ABS) on Wednesday evening said he didn’t want people to think that just because the slope of infections is on a sharp decline that “we’re out of the woods.

Sir Molwyn Joseph attributes the good news to the Covid 19 protocols and the ongoing vaccination program.

The Health Minister also stated that there’s a myriad of factors that has enabled the twin island state to arrive at the 0 case of infection record.

” I will say this upfront the country adhering to the protocols established, there is no doubt also that vaccines have played a major role in this development, where we have no active cases for the first time in several months”.

” I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the frontline workers”. We must also give praises to the many citizens  of Antigua and Barbuda who have stepped forward and accepted the vaccine. Vaccine is the solution to fighting covid along with the protocols established over the last several months”.

The most recent report received by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment from the Sir Lester Bird Mount St. John Medical Centre has revealed no new laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda as of Tuesday 15th June 2021 at 6pm.

One hundred and eigty (180) samples were processed at Sir Lester Bird MSJMC.  

One (1) recovered case was recorded increasing the total to one thousand two hundred and twenty-one (1221). 

Consequently, the total number of persons with laboratory confirmed COVID-19 cases in Antigua and Barbuda remains one thousand two hundred and sixty-three (1263); There are no active cases. 

Meanwhile, thirty five thousand two hundred and fifty-seven (35,257) first doses of the Covid-19 vaccines have been administered while twenty four thousand three hundred and twenty-five (24,325) second doses were administered.
