MP Pringle says PM Browne showed gross disrespect to Social Security pensioners by disparaging last week’s picket

Leader of the Opposition Jamale Pringle is adding his voice to the discussions surrounding last week’s standoff  between Prime Minister Gaston Browne and a number of senior citizens.

Last Thursday, December 3, Social Security pensioners picketed the Prime Minister’s Office, protesting the continued late payments of their pensions.  Browne later took to his Facebook page and made an attempt to downplay their action.

Commenting on the Prime Minister’s Pringle actions, MP Pringle says Browne showed gross disrespect to the pensioners, who have toiled over decades – only to be treated with scant regard by the authorities.

Pringle, like Senator Damani Tabor last week, is concerned that the Government is yet to announce concrete plans on how it will address the issue of late payments to pensioners.

During the protest, Browne told the pensioners that he is making payments above the government’s obligation to Social Security, and that the fall-off in private-sector contributions had caused the Scheme’s struggles.

However, the irate seniors would not accept his explanations, declaring that their money had been stolen, and called on him to resign since he could not manage.
