DoE must tell the St. Phillip South community whether EIA has been done ahead of Willoughby Bay project, says Wehner

George Wehner, Mobilization Officer for the United Progressive Party (UPP) is imploring the Department of the Environment (DoE) to do its job, and not allow politicians to dictate the functions of the agency.

Wehner’s call comes as the Government proceeds with a Willoughby Bay development project that has residents concerned, since no Environmental Impact Assessment is known to have been done.

Wehner is calling on the head of the DoE, Diane Black-Layne, to tell the public what studies have been done in the area to determine its suitability for the project.

The UPP Mobilization Officer is also critical of the silence of Lennox Weston, Member of Parliament for St. Phillip South, who is yet to address the constituents’ concerns.

Meanwhile, Wehner notes that discussions on the proposed development have been had with the Economic Recovery Committee, but not with the residents of the affected community.

The Government has announced that a Nigerian investor is contemplating the construction of an African-themed hotel in the area.
