Relatives of a missing 23-year-old woman from Laventille have raised concerns about the response of Tobago police as the search for her continues.
The missing woman, identified as LaTonya Christian, is a hairdresser who was last reportedly seen on October 8. Her disappearance was reported to police on October 23 at the Shirvan Road Police Station.
During a candlelight vigil held at St Barb’s Basketball Court in Port of Spain, relatives expressed frustration over what they described as delays in the police response.
Christian’s family believes more could have been done to assist with locating her and has appealed for greater attention to the investigation.
However, Senior Superintendent of the Tobago Division, Rodhill Kirk, defended the police response, explaining that officers began investigating once the missing-person report was officially received.
Kirk questioned why the disappearance had not been reported earlier, noting the 15-day period between the date Christian was last seen and the filing of the report.
Police have indicated that investigations are continuing and that the family will receive updates as additional information becomes available.
