International human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson has paid tribute to the late Sir Aziz Hadeed, recognising his contributions to education, democracy and public service in Antigua and Barbuda.
He recalled Hadeed’s generosity, his commitment to democratic principles and his desire to create opportunities for young people in Antigua and Barbuda.
Hadeed played several roles in national and regional public life. His work included involvement with The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus, where he served as chairman of the campus council, as well as business and public service.
Robertson’s tribute highlighted the lasting influence that individuals can have through their contributions to education, community development and national institutions.
Hadeed died in May 2026 and was subsequently accorded an official funeral in recognition of his service to the country.
The tribute comes ahead of a memorial lecture scheduled for October 30 at the Five Islands Campus, where Robertson is expected to address the political potential of the Commonwealth.
