Calls for reparatory justice are gaining renewed attention ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to host from November 1 to 4.
Sir Hilary Beckles, chairman of the CARICOM Reparations Commission, has appealed to King Charles III to take a leading role in addressing the historical injustices associated with slavery and the transatlantic slave trade.
The appeal comes as Caribbean leaders and advocates seek greater recognition of the lasting consequences of slavery and meaningful dialogue about reparations.
The upcoming Commonwealth meeting is expected to bring together leaders from across the organisation to discuss issues affecting member states, including economic development, climate change and international cooperation.
