A jury has found Kareem Simon, a 45-year-old resident of Greenbay, guilty of murdering 66-year-old Dennis Edwards during a confrontation on Lower All Saints Road in August 2023.
The case concerned Edwards’ death on August 21, 2023. During the trial, Simon maintained that he had acted in self-defence, telling investigators that the older man had attacked him first.
However, surveillance footage presented during the proceedings reportedly showed Simon initiating the physical confrontation. The recording captured Edwards standing near Courts Furnishings on Lower All Saints Road while Simon was seated nearby.
The jury considered the evidence presented during the trial and ultimately rejected Simon’s claim of self-defence, returning a guilty verdict for murder.
The case highlights the role surveillance technology can play in criminal investigations and court proceedings. Video recordings may help investigators and jurors examine events alongside witness testimony and other evidence.
The verdict marks a significant development in a case that originated more than three years ago.
The published report identified November 19 as the scheduled sentencing date before Justice John Spencer.
The case also serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that can follow violent confrontations. The jury’s verdict establishes Simon’s criminal responsibility in this case, while sentencing remains a separate stage of the judicial process.
