Guyana marked their inaugural appearance at the FIFAe Continental Championship with a historic third-place finish in Mexico City, signalling a landmark moment for the nation’s expanding esports programme.
Competing in the first edition of the Concacaf-backed tournament for North, Central America, and the Caribbean, Guyana pushed Costa Rica to the limit in a tightly contested semi-final clash.
After battling to a 1-1 draw in the opening match, a narrow 1-0 defeat in the second fixture ended their hopes of reaching the final.
Despite the semi-final exit, third spot was officially secured, making Guyana the only English-speaking nation to finish inside the top three during a standout debut campaign on the regional stage.
The squad was represented on the digital pitch by National eFootball Mobile players Christian ‘christian89’ Harris and Jeremiya ‘jrboss2000’ Johnson, supported by head coach Martin Massiah and assistant coach Daniel Idal.
Reflecting on the achievement, Massiah highlighted the momentum the performance creates for the sport back home.
“Football has always given Guyana a reason to dream, and now esports is expanding that dream,” Massiah said.
“Our responsibility is to turn moments like this into a movement, to build the pathways, raise the standard, and ensure that wherever the future of football is being shaped, Guyana has a place in it.”
The Guyana Football Federation praised the entire contingent for their efforts in Mexico City, with the landmark run expected to serve as a strong foundation for future international competitions.
