Guyana: Police investigate two suspected suicides in Kamarang, Meadow Bank

Police are investigating two separate suspected suicides involving a 17-year-old student in Kamarang and a 52-year-old driver in Meadow Bank.

In the first incident, police said the 17-year-old student was found unresponsive at her home at Kamarang Landing, Upper Mazaruni River, between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026.

Relatives reportedly discovered the teenager and took her to the Kamarang District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detectives examined the body and observed an impression around the neck, but no other marks of violence were found on the exposed parts of the body.

The body remains at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Saturday, August 29, police in Regional Division #4’A’ began investigating the suspected suicide of a 52-year-old driver at his Meadow Bank, East Bank Demerara residence.

The man, who lived alone, was reportedly found unresponsive in his apartment by a neighbour at about 9 a.m.

Police and emergency medical personnel were summoned, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was subsequently taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police said investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
