​Police Officer Joshua Hamlet has become the second police officer to be charged with the murder of 16-year-old Jerbiah Paul, who was killed on July 24, 2026.
Hamlet appeared before a Roseau Magistrate on Monday, August 17, where the murder charge was formally read to him.

He was not required to enter a plea, as murder is an indictable offence and the matter must be dealt with before the High Court.
Hamlet is being represented by attorney Dawn Yearwood Stewart, while State attorneys Kevin Julien and Gabrielle St. Hilaire appeared for the prosecution.

Following the brief court proceedings, Hamlet was remanded to the State Prison.
He is expected to make his next court appearance on October 2, 2026, in Portsmouth for reporting.
Hamlet is the second police officer to be brought before the court in connection with Paul’s death.
The case stems from the death of the 16-year-old on July 24 and has since resulted in murder charges being brought against two members of the police force.
