The Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Fisheries and the Blue Economyhas begun receiving a new fleet of heavy-duty equipment and tractors as part of efforts to expand the ministry’s agricultural support capacity.
The equipment acquisition marks an expansion of the ministry’s heavy-duty equipment department, which officials say will allow for broader assistance to farmers across Antigua and Barbuda.
According to Minister Anthony Smith, the new machinery will be deployed for land clearing, pond and dam construction, land preparation, and farm road repair.
The minister said the procurement is part of a wider plan to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen food security.
