Antigua and Barbuda’s Davis Cup team earned their second victory of the tournament on Thursday, edging Suriname 2-1 at the National Racquet Sports Centre in Trinidad.
The win came on the back of a strong performance from team captain and number one seed Jody Maginley, who dominated the singles match against Yigal Bergen, winning 6-2, 6-2. Maginley then teamed up with Rodain Monelle to clinch the doubles fixture in a closely contested three-set match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Antigua and Barbuda began the tournament on a high note with a 2-1 victory over Panama on August 4. Maginley started the winning campaign with a convincing singles win over Davis Rodriguez, 6-0, 6-3, and later paired with Monelle to take the doubles 7-6, 6-0.
The Davis Cup Americas Group IV tournament runs until August 9 and features 10 nations vying for promotion to the Americas Group III in 2026. The top two teams from each group will advance to the promotional playoffs.
