The two Antiguan nationals who sparked a missing persons investigation in Sint Maarten have been found safe after experiencing mechanical problems that left them stranded at sea between Antigua and Barbuda.
Yesterday, the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) received confirmation that brothers Brabely Antonio Esteves-Vasquez and Francisco Antonio Esteves-Vasquez are alive and safe. KPSM detectives spoke directly with the young menโs mother who confirmed she had made contact with her sons.
According to the motherโs account, the brothers experienced mechanical problems with their vessel while traveling, which left them drifting between Antigua and Barbuda for an extended period. This explains their sudden disappearance and inability to contact family members, which had raised significant concerns about their safety.
Inspector Joe Josepha, KPSMโs communications officer, had earlier confirmed that the case was being treated seriously, given Sint Maartenโs reputation as a transshipment hub in the region.
The matter was particularly concerning as it occurred while the brothers were reportedly being investigated in Antigua for an alleged altercation with a local fisherman. The incident allegedly resulted in the victim sustaining facial fractures after being struck with a wooden bench.
While the news brings relief to family members and authorities, KPSM said that the circumstances remain under review. The police force is now actively engaging with regional law enforcement and maritime partners throughout the Caribbean to verify the brothersโ current location and conduct a welfare check.
