Dequan Yearwood, who was convicted for sexually violating a minor over three years ago, has been jailed.
Yearwood was found guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor in November last year.
He was sentenced to two years for the offence which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years.
The victim, who has a learning disability and is developmentally delayed by about three years, was found in the defendant’s apartment.
Someone had gone looking for her at the young man’s home and when he eventually opened the door, the young girl was seen fixing her clothes.
The teenager’s mother became aware of the incident after overhearing her other children discussing it and questioned her, and she confirmed what happened.
Yearwood at first denied the allegation but after a short trial in the High Court, a jury determined that he was in fact guilty.
