Antigua and Barbuda is introducing a new flea market in St. John’s to tidy up the city while supporting local vendors. Cabinet spokesman Lionel Hurst explained that the goal is to reorganize vending spaces, not shut them down.
The flea market, launching in a few weeks, will move vendors to designated areas, including spots near TN Kirnon School and along Old Parham Road. Inspired by North American markets, this setup aims to replace the current scattered booths with a more organized space.
A major change will be banning vending in public areas, which Hurst believes will improve the city’s look and make it more appealing to both locals and tourists. The plan is to balance economic benefits with a cleaner, more attractive city environment.
As details are finalized, the focus is on meeting the needs of vendors while enhancing St. John’s overall appeal.
