Villa Primary and Christ the King Retain National Schools Panorama Titles

Villa Primary School and Christ the King High School have retained their respective championships at the 2026 National Schools Panorama, celebrating another successful year for young musicians participating in Antigua and Barbuda’s steelpan tradition.

The competition took place on Sunday evening at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, where schools competed with musical selections drawn from the work of local artists.

Villa Primary secured the primary school championship with “Pan Man Play,” arranged by Jonathan Mills. The school’s ensemble was guided by organising teacher Naomi Elcock.

Greenbay Primary School finished as first runner-up with “Fire Under Me Foot,” associated with Burning Flames and arranged by Orel Peters. Nelvie N. Gore Primary, formerly Willikies Primary, claimed second runner-up with “Man to Man,” a selection associated with Sir Rupert “King Swallow” Philo and arranged by C. C. Cochrane.

In the secondary school category, Christ the King High School successfully defended its title with “Belong to a Flag,” arranged by Maurisha Potter. Sharon Hopkins served as the school’s organising teacher.

Ottos Comprehensive School finished first runner-up with its interpretation of “Pan Man Play,” arranged by Maury Galvez and Dr Zahra Lake. Princess Margaret School placed third with “Iron Band,” associated with Burning Flames and arranged by Kareem King.

The results recognised the dedication of the young pannists, music arrangers and teachers who worked to prepare the students for the competition.

The event also demonstrated the continuing role of steelpan music in the country’s cultural life and the importance of introducing younger generations to Antigua and Barbuda’s musical heritage.
