King Charles III has begun a two-day state visit to Guyana as part of his wider Caribbean tour, with discussions and engagements expected to focus on bilateral relations, investment opportunities and environmental conservation.

The British monarch arrived at Cheddi Jagan International Airport on Thursday, where he was welcomed by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, members of Cabinet, senior government officials and representatives of Guyana’s uniformed services.

During his visit, the King is scheduled to meet President Ali at State House and participate in engagements involving representatives from different communities across the country.

Environmental protection is also an important part of the programme. The King is expected to visit the Georgetown Botanical Gardens, where he will learn about conservation initiatives and meet young people involved in environmental activities.

His visit coincides with the Global Biodiversity Alliance Conference, which brings together scientists, Indigenous representatives and other stakeholders to discuss biodiversity and sustainable development.

The visit also provides an opportunity for Guyana and the United Kingdom to discuss trade, investment and their longstanding diplomatic relationship.

King Charles is expected to travel to Antigua and Barbuda following his engagements in Guyana to attend CHOGM alongside Queen Camilla.
