Antigua and Barbuda’s Government Continues Work on Renewable Energy Plans for Barbuda

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said Barbuda could transition to entirely renewable electricity within 18 to 24 months, through plans to expand solar generation and battery storage.

The proposed transition would be significant for an island that needs reliable electricity for homes, businesses and essential services.

Solar generation combined with battery storage can help supply electricity when sunlight is unavailable and reduce dependence on conventional fuel-based power generation.

The proposed timeline remains a government projection rather than a completed transition.
