Antigua and Barbuda Returns to Regional Tourism Leadership

Antigua and Barbuda has returned to a prominent leadership position within the regional tourism sector following the election of Tourism Minister Charles “Max” Fernandez as chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

The appointment marks the country’s return to the chairmanship after more than 15 years.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization plays an important role in promoting regional tourism, encouraging cooperation and supporting the development of destinations throughout the region.

Antigua and Barbuda’s leadership priorities are expected to include tourism connectivity, climate resilience and opportunities for regional development.

The appointment also creates an opportunity for the country to contribute to discussions about shared tourism challenges, including air connectivity, workforce development and the need to protect the natural environment.

Tourism officials across the Caribbean continue to face the challenge of attracting visitors while ensuring that local communities benefit from industry growth.
