ST JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — Antigua and Barbuda was absent from the October 28, 2026, United Nations General Assembly vote on a resolution calling for an end to the US economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba.

The resolution was adopted with 130 votes in favour, 17 against and 25 abstentions.

The absence contrasts with Antigua and Barbuda’s position in 2025, when it voted in favour of ending the decades-old embargo.

The annual resolution has consistently received broad international support, with many countries arguing that the US restrictions harm Cuba’s economy and population. Washington has historically defended its policy on political and security grounds.

Antigua and Barbuda’s absence does not constitute a vote against the resolution. However, it marks a departure from the country’s previous voting record on an issue it has traditionally supported at the United Nations.
