A man was shot and killed by the police in Shelter Rock, Spanish Town, St Catherine on Sunday morning.
The police report that about 6:50 a.m., police personnel, armed with a search warrant, went to a premises in the area said to be occupied by the man.
According to the police, he was a person of interest in a number of crimes in the St Catherine North division.
The police say the team advanced to the dwelling, and the door opened and suddenly shut.
They say the team continued to move towards the house and entered.
According to the police, during the search, the occupant allegedly pointed a firearm at the cops and, after taking evasive action, he was shot.
The police say he fell clutching a gun, which, when retrieved, was found to be a .38 revolver with five rounds of ammunition.
The injured man was assisted to the nearby Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the matter.
