Golden Grove man charged with murder of Swetes shop owner

An 18-year-old Golden Grove man has been charged with the murder of Swetes supermarket owner Mordecai Eleazer Francis, who was fatally shot at his business in Freeman’s Village in July.
Police said David McDonald was arrested and formally charged following an investigation by the Serious Crimes Unit and other members of the Criminal Investigations Department.
Francis, 60, was found unresponsive inside Risk Takers Supermarket after police responded to a report of a shooting at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
McDonald is expected to appear in court sometime this week. The Police Administration thanked members of the public for their cooperation and assistance.
