Opposition Member of Parliament Natasha Singh was released on $200,000 station bail on Wednesday after a Glock 19 pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition were found in the trunk of a car in which she was travelling with her husband.
Police said the firearm was discovered around 12:15 a.m. at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, after ranks intercepted a black Toyota Allion, registration PAH 4034.
The car was occupied by Singh and her 35-year-old businessman husband of Campbellville, Georgetown.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a bag in the trunk containing a Glock 19 9mm pistol, a magazine with 12 live rounds and a photocopy of a firearm licence issued in the name of Dawn Hastings-Williams.
Both occupants were arrested and taken to the Farm/Herstelling Police Station.
Singh was interviewed by detectives later that morning and, after consulting with her lawyer, provided a statement. She was released on $200,000 station bail at about 11:42 a.m.
The firearm, ammunition and vehicle were lodged as investigations continue.
