The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has confirmed that a woman and her children, who were the subject of a widely circulated social media video, have been safely located at Puruni Landing in Region Seven.
According to the Ministry, an anonymous report was received via its 914 hotline several days ago, raising concerns about the woman, who was believed to be of unsound mind. The report indicated that she had previously been living at Laing Avenue, Georgetown, but was later put out of the residence.
Following the report, Childcare and Protection Officers moved swiftly to intervene, establishing contact with a relative who had offered the woman temporary shelter. The relative was advised to bring her to the Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) as soon as possible so that urgent assistance and support services could be provided.
However, before this could happen, the Ministry was informed that the woman had left the residence with her children without the relative’s knowledge. Authorities, working alongside partners, continued efforts to locate the family to ensure their safety.
The Guyana Police Force has since located the woman and her children at Puruni Landing. The Ministry confirmed that she is currently receiving assistance and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a medical facility to ensure she receives the necessary care.
Meanwhile, the CPA will continue to work closely with the mother and her children, providing ongoing support, safeguarding their wellbeing, and acting in their best interest.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to swift intervention, coordinated action, and compassionate support for vulnerable individuals and families across the country.
