Festivals Commission makes adjustments in light of recent Cabinet decision

Adjustment to Independence Day Celebration Date

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission (ABFC) advises the public that, following Cabinet guidance, the official observance of Independence Day 2025 will now take place on Monday, November 3, 2025, rather than Saturday, November 1, 2025.

The adjustment follows the standard national practice whereby, when an official public holiday falls on a weekend, the corresponding observance is recognized on the following Monday. This ensures consistency with the established legislation governing national holidays.

The ABFC had earlier announced November 1 as the date of celebration in keeping with the nation’s traditional Independence Day. However, in light of the clarification from Cabinet regarding the interpretation of the Public Holidays Act of 2019, the Commission will now observe the festivities in accordance with the updated directive.

As a result, the Ceremonial Parade, the National Awards Ceremony, the National Food Fair and the Independence Flag Ceremony for Barbuda will now be held on Monday, November 3, 2025.

The Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission thanks the public for its understanding and continued enthusiasm as the nation prepares to celebrate 44 years of Independence under the theme “Solid. Stable. Soaring.”

More details will be shared during our Independence Celebrations.
