KINGSTON, Jamaica — El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced that his country will dispatch three humanitarian aid planes to Jamaica on Friday to support recovery efforts on the island in the wake of Hurricane Melissa.
In a post shared on X, President Bukele said more than 300 rescuers will take part in the mission, which will deliver over 50 tons of essential supplies to assist communities devastated by the powerful storm.
The aid mission is expected to include food, medical supplies, and emergency relief equipment for areas hardest hit by the Category 5 hurricane, which made landfall in Jamaica earlier this week, leaving widespread destruction, power outages, and displacement across several parishes.
El Salvador’s gesture adds to a growing wave of regional and international support as the country works to recover from the hurricane’s impact.
