Close to One Hundred Pounds of Cannabis Seized in Joint Police and Customs Operations

Within a space of 24hrs, the Police and Customs have seized close to One Hundred Pounds of Cannabis during seperate joint Drug operations at the V. C. Bird International Airport and Deep Water Harbour.
On Wednesday, September 24, both law enforcement agencies conducted a search at the Deep Water Harbour Cargo Area and discovered Two (2) cardboard boxes with forty (40) vacuum-sealed packages containing the controlled drugs cannabis.
The boxes along with its contents were taken and to Police Headquarters for further processing. The substance amounted to forty (40) pounds with an estimated street value of $240,000.
On Tuesday, a similar operation was conducted at the airport Cargo Shed. During that operation, Two (2) cardboard boxes with fifty-two (52) vacuum-sealed packages of the controlled drug cannabis were discovered.
The packages were seized and taken to Police Headquarters. That seizure amounted to fifty-two (52) pounds, with an estimated street value of $312,000.
Both seizures represent a significant disruption to the illegal drug trade and highlight the continued vigilance and cooperation between the Police and Customs in safeguarding the borders of Antigua and Barbuda.
Investigation remains ongoing into both incidents.
