Hundreds of farmers in Antigua and Barbuda are set to receive vital agricultural support through a large-scale fertilizer distribution drive spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Lands, and the Blue Economy.
The government secured more than 1,750 bags of fertilizer for the exercise, which was launched on Tuesday, with donations from the Kingdom of Morocco.
Officials say the programme is part of ongoing efforts to boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security across the twin-island state.
Anthony Smith, a senior official in the ministry, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to equipping farmers with essential resources. “This is another strong step toward strengthening our agricultural sector and ensuring food security,” he noted.
Farmers have until 8 September to collect their supplies, with ministry officials encouraging full participation to help sustain local food production.
Agriculture authorities have repeatedly stressed the importance of increasing domestic crop yields, especially in light of rising global food prices and supply chain challenges.
The ministry has pledged to continue supporting farmers through technical training, improved infrastructure, and access to inputs.
