PM Browne to become new Chair of ECCB Monetary Council

Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne will become the new Chairman of the ECCB Monetary Council.

PM Browne will officially take over the role following a ceremony set for next Thursday, July 17 at the Conference Centre of the American University of Antigua (AUA).

He will relieve Anguilla’s Finance, Labour, Immigration, Home Affairs and Constitutional Affairs Minister Cora Richardson-Hodge.

It will begin at 6pm.

Barbuda is set to host the 111th Meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s (ECCB’s) Monetary Council in July 2025, marking the first time the sister isle will be hosting the body in charge of ensuring the stability of regional economic governance.

The announcement came during the 110th Monetary Council meeting held in St Kitts on February 14.

The two-day event will begin in Antigua on July 17 with the handover ceremony.

The following day, members of the council will convene in Barbuda for the main meeting, bringing together finance ministers and government leaders from across the eight-member currency union.

During the current meeting’s presentation on Friday, the ECCB’s economic outlook painted an optimistic picture for 2025.
