Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that there is no immediate plan for Antigua to replace the Queen as head of state for Antigua and Barbuda.

Price Edward, the youngest of Queen Elizabeth’s children and the Earl of Wessex along with his wife, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex have officially arrived in Antigua yesterday as part of their Caribbean tour.

The royals first visit was to Government House for an event called ‘showcasing our nation, saluting our people’ hosted by Their Excellencies Governor General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams after which they will go on to the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium for ‘inspiration at the crease’ at 2pm.

Additional activates continued into the afternoon at English harbour  for an event called ‘from the helm, saluting the triumphant’ with the National Sailing Academy, and a visit to the historical Clarence House with ‘memories, memoirs and meaning’.

In a special cabinet meeting yesterday to welcome the royals, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that there is no immediate plan for Antigua to replace the Queen as head of state for Antigua and Barbuda.
