Three second-hand fire tenders are on order, with the first expected on island within a month, Department Head assures

Chief Elvis Weaver says the Fire Department is expecting at least three second-hand tenders on island, with the first arriving in the next three to four weeks.

Weaver says he, personally, has been in contact with the relevant company in England to ensure that the truck will arrive during this period.

Although the trucks are not new, the Fire Chief says they will greatly improve the efficiency of the Department.  He explains that a new truck takes at least eight months to one year to be custom made.

With regard to the St. John’s tender that has been down for over three weeks, Weaver is hoping that it will be back up and running by the end of this week.

At present, the Department is operating with only one truck, which is stationed at All Saints.

Three tenders are stationed on the airport compound, according to international requirements; but these should not be re-deployed unless there is a crisis.
