Garbage collector’s including drivers and loaders will be fully compensated this coming Friday after demanding their overtime pay from the National Solid Waste Management Authority.
The workers went on strike from February 7. Drivers parked their trucks and assembled at the Cooks Sanitary Landfill for a few days, refusing to pick up the piles of garbage throughout the island.
The payment process which began last Friday will be completed this week.
According to Former General Secretary of the Antigua and Trades and Labour Union Hugh Joseph the outstanding payments include pay for unused sick days.
“Full payment, everything outstanding, will be paid on Friday and for some that’s a significant sum. The total amount owing is in excess of EC$400,000,” he said.
