Politician accused of indiscriminate burning

Grenada – According to Roger English, the burning of three plots of lands by Economist and  ‘Politician’  in Lance Aux Epines Dr. Patrick Antoine is affecting residents, as they claim they cannot function effectively especially when there are ‘large fires’
.
In a release circulated by Roger England also a resident he indicated that the residents of the area are angry at the burning of undeveloped house plots by Mr Patrick Antoine.

In the last two weeks the plots in the residential area have been burned risking fire spreading to neighboring plots and sending plumes of unpleasant smoke into neighboring houses.
England claims that residents have experienced adverse effects on eyes, sinuses and respiratory problems.

English claims that burning has endangered Grenlec and Flow cables and has burned the neighborhood water supply pipe to the extent that Nawasa has to replace a section of it.

In an interview with Roger England, he says the matter is so serious that the Resident association in Lance Aux Epines is taking up the matter.

English states that the indiscriminate burning England says has to stop.

England said Mr Antoine has ignored all requests from neighbours to cease this practice.

English says that he has displayed complete indifference to the dangers and impact on the health and welfare of residents.

He also stated that residents have contacted the police about the matter however they claim there is nothing they can do about it considering that he has permission to do so.

We were reliably informed that this matter is now being pursued by Dr. Antoine on the grounds of defamation.

We understands that Dr. Antoine who is not on island is not an integral part of the burning but contracted someone to clear the lands, in which permission was granted under the law by all.the relevant Authorities.

The contractor according to our source dotted all of his I’s and crossed his T’s including meeting with the police, the ministry of Agriculture and the Fire Department, in which permission was granted to burn the land which was used as a dumping area.

We also contacted Dr. Patrick Antoine has refused to comment on the matter but did indicate that there are far more important issues in a pandemic which affects the Grenadian people, and this will continue to be his main priority.
