OMICRON in Trinidad

Trinidad – First case of OMICRON recorded in Trinidad; the announcement was made by Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh during the ministry’s virtual COVID-19 briefing on Monday.

According to Deyalsingh the discovery was noticed in a woman who travelled into the country from New York, notably with a positive PCR test, to Panama, where she boarded with a negative antigen test.

He cleared the air indicating that the positive PCR test was noted by Port Health in TT, and the woman was placed in isolation at a step-down facility, where she will remain until further notice.

The health minister added that contact tracing has already begun as the 14 people in a two-row radius on board the same aircraft as the Omicron-positive person, have been contacted.

There are now isolated at home and are being monitored. He said all had negative PCR tests.

The health minister stated that the female passenger was identified at the airport and never got the opportunity to mingle with the populationbefore she was ordered into a state quarantine.
