“Vaccines are among the most precious commodity,” Gaston Browne exclaimed

Prime Minister Gaston Browne is attributing the reduction of Covid cases worldwide to vaccinations.

He said that vaccinations have now put the virus under retreat, and according to him that’s great news for small island states who rely heavily on tourism.

New coronavirus cases here have also decreased significantly.

“Globally 1.6 billion people donated at a rate of about 28 million doses a day. So you can understand the global demand for vaccination. So far at 1.6 billion, you are looking at about 12% of the total vaccination required globally,” Browne expressed.

“Vaccination will remain very scarce for the rest of the year. I hope our people understand right now vaccines are among the most precious commodity that one could have.”

Amid negative reports surrounding the vaccines the turnout at vaccination centres globally remains low and here in Antigua and Barbuda several incentives have been introduced to lure persons to the vaccination sites.

As of May 25, approximately 32,700 people had received a first dose of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine and the country needs to inoculate at least 70,000 people to achieve herd immunity.
