30,000 tourism workers to be vaccinated in Jamaica

Tourism minister of Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett, reported that Jamaica’s tourism industry workers would be vaccinated this week, intending to protect the 30,000 workers. They will be vaccinating over five days, scheduled to end on Tuesday.

Speaking to the local media on Saturday at a Montego Bay Convention Centre,Edmund Bartlett stated,

“The vast majority” of residents vaccinated that day were “by and large, tourism workers,” whom he said “have been responding” to government appeals for citizens to undergo coronavirus vaccination.

According to the local press reports, the Bahia hotel in Runaway Bay also vaccinated its workers on Saturday. Several new vaccination sites were also established in St Ann, Trelawny, St James and Westmoreland parishes.

It is reported that “tourism worker vaccination” was scheduled to begin in July but moved up due to the considerations of Jamaica Hotel and Tourism Association (JHTA) officials.

Jamaica has reported a growth in the tourism sector as vaccine distribution becomes more widespread across the country.

Bartlett said that some hotels reported 75% occupancy on weekends. While JHTA’s president and managing director of Ocho Rios’ Moon Palace Jamaica resort stated that several north coast hotels reported occupancy levels of up to 70%.

Christopher Tufton, Jamaica’s health and wellness minister, stated that it is important to prevent Tourism workers and to appreciate the market that they are protected, but they will also be protecting those who come.”

The wellness of the Tourism Workers is important to strengthen the market of the nation. Because Jamaica’s economy is based on Tourism and to make the tourists sure about safety, it is essential to make their attendants vaccinated. It is necessary to make the visitors or visitors believe that the safe hands will attend them.

Jamaica is the first country to receive COVID-19 vaccines through the COVEX facility in Caribbean countries. Jamaica has received 14,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
