Prime Minister accepts donation of 5000 Books towards Villa Community Library

On Tuesday 16th March, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, in his capacity of Parliamentary Representative for St. John’s City West was present at the Villa Community Center as Mr. Ronald Mind donated just over 5,000 books towards the creation of a community library.

In accepting the kind donation, PM Browne expressed gratitude to Mr. Mind for his contribution. “On behalf of the residents and citizens of this community, we say thank you to Mr. Mind for this very important contribution of 5,000 books. These books I am told, spans different subjects, including encyclopedias, fiction, science, etc.”

The Prime Minister and MP for the community went on to state that he hopes residents will avail their children of the opportunity to use the library to read and develop strong word power at an early age.

“It is a very important contribution towards the establishment of a library within the community. What we are seeking to do is to encourage more reading and research at an early age.”

In his response, Mr. Mind revealed that he too, is an avid reader. “It is my absolute pleasure to donate these books to the Villa and Point community. Reading is absolutely essential for anyone looking to progress in anything that they do. It humbles me to be able to make this contribution.” Mr. Mind said

PM Browne used the opportunity to also explain that the community center is also a multipurpose center that will even serve the creative arts. “For example, we have about Seventy-thousand dollars ($70,000) worth of musical instruments to include guitars, keyboards, wind instruments, you name the instruments and we have purchased several pieces of each, so that we can teach classes in music and broaden the horizon of residents of this community and those external of the community who can use the facility as well.”

In January, Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries, The Hon. Daryll Mathew announced the timely donation of almost 10,000 books to the National Public Library thanks to Mr. Ronald Mind.
