Covid Vaccination for school children will not be mandatory-Education Minister

Mandatory taking of the covid vaccine for children to attend school will not be on the cards.

Those members of the public who are not inclined to take the covid vaccine will not have to worry about their children being forced to take them as well to attend school as the newly appointed Education Minister Darryll Matthew spoke briefly on the matter this morning.

He echoed the sentiments of the Health Ministry in saying that it will not be mandatory.

“The position of the Cabinet is that it is not going to be mandatory and that has not changed”, Matthew said.

It was a concern rasied in the public domain regarding the vaccine and children attending school but Matthew noted that no one will be forced to take the vaccine whenever it arrives if they choose not to do so.

He did however continue to encourage the public to remain safe and abide by the various protocols put in place.

Thus far, major countries like the UInited Kingdom and the U.S. have begun administering the vaccine to the public. Antigua and Barbuda will more than likely receive their batch of the vaccine mid 2021.
