Young woman fined for disorderly conduct in court lobby

A Cashew Hill woman has been fined $400 for behaving in a disorderly manner and using indecent language while on the compound of the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court.

Twenty-two year old Jene James went to the court located in Grays Farm on December 11 to collect her child maintenance money.

Upon being told that the money was not ready and being asked to return on December 14, James became angry and started making noise in the court lobby.

She was asked to conduct herself appropriately but instead she became even more irate and became using indecent language saying, “so much of problem to get the money, all of you can just….off.”

James was subsequently detained at the St.Johns Police Station where she was told about the allegations against her.

She was later arrested and charged.

The mother of two admitted to the offense today before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh.

She issued an apology to the court then her lawyer,Sherfield Bowen, begged the Magistrate for leniency.

Should James fail to pay the two $200 fines, she will spend one month in jail.
