No support for Joseph’s proposal for early closure of bars; but continued disregard for protocols could spark a review

Health Minister Molwyn Joseph has failed to secure the support of his Cabinet colleagues for the imposition of an 8 p.m. curfew on bar operators.

During a press conference on Tuesday (October 13), Joseph said he would petition the Cabinet to change the current 11 p.m lockdown time.

He based his planned request on the complaints of Chief Health Inspector Sharon Martin, who said that bar operators continue to disregard the safety protocols.

However, after mulling the effects such a decision would have on the country’s overall economic prospects, the Cabinet opted against the move.

Nicholas says that many persons frequent these establishments as a form of recreation, social interaction and stress relief, and he is admonishing them to be more responsible.

If the wanton disregard for the protocols continues, he warns, the Government may reconsider its position.
