Bangladesh- Four Million Impacted by Monsoon Flooding

Heavy rains and flooding have left millions of people to be displaced and at least 25 deaths across the northeastern region of Bangladesh.

However, due to a lack of telecommunication service, it is impossible to fully assess the extent of the damage, particularly in the hard-hit districts of Sylhet and Sunamganj. The situation is expected to worsen.

According to the country’s State Minister for the Ministry of Disaster Management, Dr. Enamur Rahma, 90% of the district of Sunamganj is underwater and is almost entirely cut off from the rest of the country.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society is expected to render assistance with resettlement and has vowed to “provide cash assistance to the flood-affected families.”
