Jamaica joins the fight for Caribbean herd immunity

To promote Caribbean herd immunity, Jamaica administers around 1million vaccines with plans to administer more.

On November 7, Jamaica stated that it has given out over one million COVID-19 vaccination shots. According to the Ministry of Health, authorities had set a deadline of November 30 to reach the target.

On Twitter, Prime Minister Andrew Holness congratulated the achievement, stating he was pleased with the progress.

He stated, “I’m even happier that we were able to reach this target 3 weeks early. Thanks to every Jamaican who decided to get vaccinated and especially to those who became vaccine ambassadors!”

Dr. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health and Wellness, praised the success and thanked the country’s public health team for their devotion and continuous efforts to give the vaccination to the community.

Tufton also commended the private sector for its contributions to the immunization campaign.

He did, however, point out that Jamaica still has a long way to go in terms of vaccination.

“I hope this milestone will encourage Jamaicans not yet vaccinated to come on board. Vaccination saves lives and is the most effective response to COVID to restore normality to our lives,” he said.
