Ten individuals were arrested for throwing missiles at the recent protest

Chief of Police Atlee Rodney says about 10 people who participated in the August 8 protest have been charged.

Those charged were apprehended for throwing missiles.

He says investigations are underway and other residents are likely to be charged.

“Investigations are going on right now and there are more persons that are likely to be arrested and charged. We are analysing some of the videos, some of the officers are providing their information and the investigation team has been put into place and more actions will be taken.”

The police used teargas and rubber bullets to disperse protestors at the VC Bird Bust on lower Market Street who were speaking out against the government COVID policies.

Rodney says his officers performed “in accordance with the law”.

“I must commend my officers, despite all the missiles that were thrown at them they stood their ground and remained resolute in enforcing the laws of the land.”

“I am also thankful that none of them was injured in any serious way and also we had no protestors who were injured in any serious way,” The Commissioner of Police added.
