Thirty-eight year old Nkemwa Gordon of Gray Hill made his first appearance in St.John’s Magistrates’ Court today since being charged with wounding with intent to murder a fellow prisoner on Wednesday.
Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh set his next court date for March 18 where he will find out if the prosecution has mounted enough evidence against him for a High Court trial.
Gordon, who is currently serving a 15 year prison sentence for rape followed by a three year sentence for robbery, allegedly stabbed Conroy Jones of Ottos in his head and neck during an altercation within the prison walls on October 30.
The alleged attack is said to have arisen because of a disagreement over water access.
Thirty- year-old Jones is said to now be paralyzed as a result of the incident.
Damage to his spinal chord reportedly resulted in him being immobile on the left side of his body.
